The International Islamic Trade finance Corporation (ITFC), an autonomous entity within the IDB Group, has lent its weight behind regional and international efforts to launch a determined aid–for-Trade (afT) road Map in cooperation with the united nations economic social Commission West asia (ESCWA) and other regional and international bodies. This was announced in january by ITFC CEO, Dr Waleed Al Wohaib during his speech at the first Consultative Meeting to launch an initiative on aid-for-Trade (afT) road Map, which is taking place in Beirut.
Meanwhile, another ITFC initiative has enabled the International Trade Centre (ITC) to work closely with trade promotion
organisations in Malaysia, Tunisia and Turkey to strengthen their training ability to help local businesses develop their export capability.
ITC, a joint venture of the united nations and the World Trade Organisation (WTO), has had a long-standing cooperation with the Idb and signed a Memorandum of understanding with the ITfC in february 2008. This has resulted in a number of joint initiatives between the two organisations including a project aimed at strengthening the capacity of trade support institutions in Turkey, Tunisia and Malaysia.
